LARGE MARKET TOTE CROCHET PATTERN

LARGE MARKET TOTE CROCHET PATTERN

If you have just a few hours, you can complete this simple tote bag crochet pattern from Daisy Cottage Designs. This free crochet design is just the perfect size for toting to the farmer's market or the beach this summer. Add a cute flower to embellish this homemade tote bag. It's also perfect for your project bag.

I hope you all enjoy it just as much as you did the first.

Materials:
- approximately 8 oz of worsted weight, cotton yarn
- I crochet hook
- Flower for embellishing (I used a flower made from this pattern)
- Safety pin for marking stitches

Pattern Notes:
- This pattern is worked in rounds through round 6; after that, you’ll be working in spiral. This means you will not slip stitch or chain between rows. There are photos showing how to do this in the smaller size pattern.
– The ch 2 at the beginning of each round does not count as a stitch when working the body of the bag. The ch 2 does count as a stitch when working on the handles.

Adult-Sized Market Tote

Chain 3.
Round 1: 12 dc into the first ch. Sl st to the top of the first dc. Ch 2. (12)
Round 2: 2 dc in each stitch around. Sl st to the top of the first dc. Ch 2. (24)
Round 3: *2 dc in the first stitch, 1 dc in the next* around. Sl st to the top of the first dc. Ch 2. (36)
Round 4: *2 dc in the first stitch, 1 dc in the next 2 stitches* around. Sl st to the top of the first dc. Ch 2 (48)
Round 5: *2 dc in the first stitch, 1 dc in the next 3 stitches* around. Sl st to the top of the first dc. Ch 2. (60)
Round 6: *2 dc in the first stitch, 1 dc in the next 4 stitches* around. Sl st to the top of the first dc.(72)
Beginning on round 7, you will be working in spiral. You will not join at the end of each round. Mark the first stitch of each round with a safety pin so you don’t lose your spot.
Round 7: Ch 3 (counts as first dc and chain 1). *dc, ch 1 in the next stitch* around until you get to the last stitch. In the last stitch, hdc, ch 1. At this point, you would normally slip stitch and chain. Since we’re working in spiral, you will work in the first chain 1 space you made at the beginning of this round. (72 dc, 72 ch 1 spaces)
Round 8: hdc, ch 1 in the first chain 1 space. *dc, ch 1* in each chain 1 space.
Rounds 9-32: *dc, ch 1* in each ch 1 space.
Round 33: dc in each ch 1 space.
Round 34: dc between each dc of the previous row. Sl st to the first dc. Do not cut yarn. Continue and work the first half of your handle.
You will now be working your handles. Remember, the ch 2 does count as a stitch now.

Row 1: ch 2, dc in the next 12 stitches. (13)
Row 2: ch 2, dc2tog, dc2tog, dc in the next 6 stitches. dc2tog. (10)
Row 3: ch 2, dc2tog, dc in the next 5 stitches, dc 2 tog. (8)
Rows 4-22: ch 2, dc in the next 7 stitches. (8)

Skip 23 stitches. Join yarn with a sl st and work the second half of your handle the same way you did the last. Single crochet the halves of your handle together and weave ends.
